University of Chicago students hosting the world's largest scavenger hunt this week

What/Who:

The 22nd annual Scavenger Hunt began today at the University of Chicago and will last through the weekend, sending student teams hunting for hundreds of items in several states. The list of items, which always includes encrypted clues, riddles and seemingly impossible items, remained top secret until midnight Thursday.

When:

Thursday, May 8 through Sunday, May 11

Where:

Scav Hunt Olympics will be held Saturday around 12 p.m. in the University of Chicago's Main Quadrangles. On Sunday morning, a panel of student judges will hold the judging ceremony in Ida Noyes Hall at 1212 E. 59th St., beginning sometime in the late morning.

Background:

Student judges annually spend about six months planning Scav Hunt, which can require teams to wear themed costumes and travel thousands of miles. Traditionally, judges include items that are obscure like the live elephant in 2000 hunt-which students were actually able to produce. Teams are typically affiliated with a College dorm or student group. However, graduate students and alumni are welcome to participate as well. Chicago students often say that the most important prize for the winning team is fame and glory.
