UChicago officials will conduct a routine test of cAlert, its emergency notification system, about 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 24.
The cAlert system is designed to notify the campus community immediately in the case of severe, life-threatening emergencies—situations that require immediate action by members of the community.
During Thursday’s test, as in a real emergency, members of the UChicago community will receive an email, call and/or text message indicating that the system is being tested. Recipients should confirm that they received the message as directed, which will indicate to the system that further repetition is not needed, while providing useful data on the performance of the system.
Users are encouraged to select and manage up to 10 modes of contact through the cAlert website, to ensure cAlert will reach people in the most effective way. Contact options include cell or work phone (call or text) and personal email. University email is automatically added as the default initial contact and cannot be changed.
