UChicago Prof. James A. Robinson and alum John Jumper awarded Nobel Prizes

Two members of the University of Chicago community were awarded Nobel Prizes on Dec. 10 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Prof. James A. Robinson received the 2024 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, along with Prof. Daron Acemoglu and Simon Johnson of MIT. Robinson was honored for his research exploring the differences between prosperous and poor nations—work that continues to influence world leaders today.

John Jumper, SM’12, PhD’17, currently with Google’s DeepMind, received the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry along with his colleague Demis Hassabis and the University of Washington’s David Baker. Jumper co-developed an AI model that predicts the complex folded structures of proteins.
