UChicago offers Divvy bike sharing discounts for students, faculty, staff

Discounted Divvy bike sharing memberships are now available to students, faculty and staff of the University of Chicago and the Medical Center.

Divvy is Chicago’s bike sharing system, with 3,000 bikes and 300 stations across the city, including several in Hyde Park. Crews this month installed the most recent Hyde Park stations at the Granville-Grossman Residential Commons and at Ratner Athletics Center.

The discount is intended to encourage students and other members of the University community to explore the city of Chicago through the convenient bike sharing network.

Divvy maintains a fleet of specially designed, heavy-duty bikes connected through a network of docking stations located throughout the city. Divvy bikes can be rented and returned to any station in the system, with many possible combinations of start and end points.

Cyclists from the University and Medical Center can visit the Office of Sustainability to sign up for discounted memberships. Students are eligible for a $55 one-year membership, discounted from the normal rate of $75 per year. Staff and faculty are eligible for a $65 annual membership. Divvy bikes are available for use 24 hours a day throughout the year.

A Divvy membership provides unlimited rides of up to 30 minutes each. Regular overtime fees apply after 30 minutes without docking the rental bike at a station.
