What/Who: "Out of the Shadow: Clinical Legal Education" will mark the Edwin F. Mandel Legal Aid Clinic's 50th anniversary at the University of Chicago, welcoming back alumni to campus to join faculty and other legal experts in a day of discussion and celebration.

When: 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23

Where: Glen A. Lloyd Auditorium, 1111 E. 60th St.

Background: Panel discussions will include "Signature and Shadow Pedagogies: Coexistence or Collaboration?", "Creating Lawyers: How'd You Do That?" and "The First Fifty Years are the Hardest: Defining Future Models."

Panelists from the University of Chicago Law School will include Randal C. Picker, the Paul H. and Theo Leffmann Professor of Commercial Law, and Emily Buss, the Mark and Barbara Fried Professor of Law and Kanter Director of Chicago Policy Initiatives. Panel facilitators from the University will include Elizabeth Milnikel, Director of the Institute for Justice and the Clinic on Entrepreneurship; Randolph N. Stone, Clinical Professor of Law; Jason Huber, Clinical Instructor; and Craig Futterman, Clinical Professor of Law.

Other panelists will include: Peggy Cooper Davis, from the New York University School of Law; Judith Welch Wegner, from the University of North Carolina Law School; Jonathan Baum, from Katten Muchin, Rosenman, LLP; Stefan Krieger, from Hofstra Law School; Roy Austin, from McDermott, Will & Emery, LLP; Cecelia Klingele, Clerk for Judge Susan H. Black of the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and Clerk for Justice John Paul Stevens of the U.S. Supreme Court; Randee Waldman, from Emory University School of Law; Marc Kadish, from Mayer Brown, LLP; Michael Pinard, from the University of Maryland School of Law; and Stephen Wizner, from Yale Law School.

Saul Levmore, Dean of the University of Chicago Law School, who will deliver Saturday's opening remarks, said, "Throughout its 50 years, the Law School's clinical programs have served the indigent, often in path-breaking ways, while educating and inspiring our law students."
