IT Services is creating a new process for buying technology online that will simplify purchasing and deliver computer hardware, software and peripherals directly to members of the UChicago community. The change reflects changing habits and the requests of faculty, students and staff.
These system enhancements will provide new Buysite catalogs and direct access to suppliers. With new online distributors, the University also will negotiate volume discounts and discounted shipping, and pass those savings along to consumers. Users will be able to order equipment directly to their desk and eliminate processing and delivery delays. For large orders, or when a member of the University community experiences a problem, IT Services will act as an advocate on your behalf.
For individuals wishing to purchase equipment for personal use, links to a wide variety of supplier catalogs can be found at https://itservices.uchicago.edu/services/computers. By using these links, individuals will be able to receive reduced educational pricing.
As part of this transition, the Solutions Center retail store in the University Bookstore will close on July 19. Since the store opened more than 20 years ago, the buying habits of the UChicago community have changed.
At the same time, IT Services remains committed to providing personalized service and support. Services such as repair, site licensing and IT recycling will move to a different campus location and continue to operate unchanged.
General questions about equipment and configurations can be sent to support@uchicago.edu, and users can ask questions in person at the Tech B@r in Regenstein Library.
