The public is invited to hear an address titled “‘Peace Out’ Gun Violence” to be presented by the Rev. Michael Pfleger, Pastor of St. Sabina Catholic Church, at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19 in Rockefeller Memorial Chapel.
Pfleger's address on gun violence and social justice is being organized as part of the alumni reunion weekend of the School of Social Service Administration. Following the talk, SSA alumni may take part in a hooding ceremony honoring their degrees from the University. Since 1981, Pfleger has been pastor of St. Sabina Church. Pfleger is the founder of the Employment Resource Center, the Ark Youth Center, St. Sabina Social Service Center, the Thea Bowman Spiritual Advance Center, Samaritan House for the Homeless, St. Sabina 80-unit Elders Village and the Beloved Community, Inc.
Pfleger has been recognized for his fight against guns, alcohol and tobacco billboards, drugs and racism.
Hundreds of SSA alumni will return for the weekend and will enjoy listening to lectures on current issues in social work, attending networking events and taking part in a celebration gala on Saturday, Oct. 20.
