Emmanuel Roman, MBA’87, CEO of the London-based Man Group, has been elected to the University of Chicago Board of Trustees. Roman began his five-year term at the close of the May 2015 board meeting.
“Manny will bring a range of important strengths to the board,” said Board Chairman Joseph Neubauer, MBA’65. “Rigorous inquiry brings insight into some of the world’s most significant challenges and leads to transformational impact. This is the UChicago approach, and in Manny Roman we have a distinguished alumnus who exemplifies this approach. Through his professional and philanthropic endeavors, Manny’s leadership transcends global boundaries, and we are excited to welcome him as a Trustee.”
Since 2013, Roman has served as CEO of Man Group PLC, one of the world’s largest independent alternative investment managers. Before his appointment as CEO, he had joined the Man Group’s board of directors and was appointed president and chief operating officer in 2011.

A major gift by Roman in 2013 endowed the directorship of the Neubauer Collegium for Culture and Society.
“Having board members who are engaged in the life of the University is essential for the high level of support and guidance that they provide,” said President Robert J. Zimmer. “Manny’s service to the University community has embodied this depth and breadth of engagement for many years, and his perspective will be an important addition to the board’s activities.”
