Collaborative bid for Obama Presidential Library selected for next phase

The Barack Obama Foundation announced on Sept. 15 that the collaborative effort led by the University of Chicago to bring the Obama Presidential Library to Chicago’s South Side has been selected for the final round in the foundation’s site selection process.

The University submitted the South Side bid as the leader of an extensive partnership with organizations and civic leaders on the South Side and across Chicago. Finalists in the library process have until Dec. 11 to respond to the foundation’s final Request for Proposals.

“We are grateful for the energy and enthusiasm of all those who have contributed their time and ideas to this process,” said President Robert J. Zimmer. “The widespread enthusiasm from people moved by the project’s possibilities has been especially encouraging.

“Today’s news affirms our strong belief that the library could be transformative for the heart of the South Side, bringing new economic and cultural opportunities to all of Chicago,” Zimmer said. “We will move forward with a bid that honors the rich history and traditions of the South Side and the promising future of our city.”
