University of Chicago Center in Delhi opening events to be webcast live

The University of Chicago will celebrate the opening of its Center in Delhi on March 28-30 with a series of panel discussions and events for scholars, students, alumni and distinguished guests in India.

Two of the weekend’s events will be webcast live from New Delhi. President Robert J. Zimmer will host a forum on Friday, March 28, moderated by Raghuram Rajan, governor of the Reserve Bank of India and a distinguished service professor of finance, on leave from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Rajan will guide a discussion of international collaboration featuring leaders in academia, media, finance and government.

On Saturday, March 29, the Hon. Nancy Powell, U.S. Ambassador to India, will join UChicago leaders and guests for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Center. The ribbon-cutting ceremony and presidential forum will be streamed at UChicago Live.

The presidential forum webcast will begin Friday at 7 p.m. India Standard Time (8:30 a.m. Central Daylight Time). President Zimmer will give remarks and introduce a panel discussion moderated by Rajan. He will be joined by Randall S. Kroszner, the Norman R. Bobins Professor of Economics at Chicago Booth; Shobhana Bhartia, chairperson and editorial director of the Hindustan Times Group; Chanda Kochhar, managing director and CEO, ICICI Bank; and Arun Maira, member of the Planning Commission of India.

The Center in Delhi ribbon-cutting webcast will begin Saturday, March 30 at 4 p.m. IST (5:30 a.m. CDT).

The Committee on Southern Asian Studies and the South Asia Language and Area Center will host viewing parties for the March 28 presidential forum at the University of Chicago campus in Hyde Park.
