Midway Market, a caf'e and convenience store located in the lower level of the new South Campus Residence Hall, made its debut last week.

The market "brings a new sense of life and vitality to this part of the campus while also providing new food service amenities to the neighborhood," said Kim Goff-Crews, Vice President for Campus and Student Life and Dean of Students.

Other dignitaries on hand for the event included former U.S. Senator Carol Moseley Braun, Alderman Willie B. Cochran and Bishop Arthur Brazier, Bishop of the Apostolic Church of God and founder of the Woodlawn Organization.

The caf'e will feature Moseley Braun's Ambassador Organics coffee and tea products.

Moseley Braun (JD,'72) is the first and only African-American woman to be elected to the United States Senate and the first and only female senator from Illinois.

"I was delighted to work with the University," she said.

Nadia Quarles, Director of Business Diversity, noted that 36 local Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprises collaborated on the project.

Student leaders also hailed the presence of the new Midway Market.

Jordan Phillips, a fourth-year and chair of the Campus Dining Advisory Board, said Midway Market "fits a uniquely student need-convenience store, late night snacks, place to work and a safe environment close to home."
