Men’s, women’s soccer teams reach Sweet 16 of NCAA tourney

The UChicago men’s and women’s soccer teams advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III Championship following victories Sunday at Stagg Field.

The No. 1-ranked men’s team scored three goals in a three-minute span in the first half of its 4-0 victory over Westminster College in the second round of the tourney. Earlier that afternoon, the No. 11-ranked Maroons women’s team defeated Augsburg College 2-0, a day after defeating Webster University 6-0 to open tournament play.

The Maroons men’s team (17-0-2), which had a first-round bye as the top seed in the tournament, advanced to the Round of 16 for the second time in program history. UChicago will host a four-team sectional on Nov. 19-20 at Stagg Field and will face the University of Redlands (15-4-1) on Saturday at 11 a.m.

The Maroons women’s team (17-3) reached the Round of 16 for the 10th time in school history. It will face No. 3-ranked Thomas More College this weekend in a four-team sectional hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The time of Saturday’s game is TBA.
