Everett Conner appointed Journals Manager of the University of Chicago Press

After concluding a nationwide search, The University of Chicago Press is pleased to announce that Everett Conner has accepted the position of Journals Manager. He will assume the responsibilities for overseeing all functions of the Journals Division, effective immediately. Most recently, he was the Interim Journals Manager and Journals Publishing Operations Director at the Press.

"Everett has developed the trust and respect of his colleagues at the Press and the University," said Garrett Kiely, Director of theUniversity of Chicago Press. "He has been involved in all aspects of our journals list, and it is fair to say that he knows the Journals Division better than anyone." Kiely observed that Conner will lead the Journals Division at a crucial period, a "time of great change in the world of journal publishing," adding, "I have every faith that Everett's previous experience as well as his commitment to the quality that is the hallmark of the University of Chicago Press Journals will serve him well and will provide the Journals Division with the steady leadership needed to move us forward."

The Journals Division was a pioneer in new technologies and we will remain at the forefront of critical publishing developments." The recent addition of Schools: Studies in Education and the Journal of Human Capital demonstrate our concurrent commitment to our strengths and our vision for the future."

Everett Conner joined the Press in 1985 and has held several positions over the past 23 years. Everett's previous positions at the Press include Publication Manager for the Medical Journals and Journals Production Manager.

Founded in 1891, the University of Chicago Press was conceived by President William Rainey Harper as an "organic part" of the University, extending the influence of Chicago scholars around the world. Within ten years, the Press had introduced fourteen scholarly journals, including American Journal of Sociology, The Elementary School Journal, The Journal of Geology, International Journal of Plant Sciences, Journal of Near Eastern Studies, and Journal of Political Economy. All remain in wide circulation.
