David Greene, who has served as vice president for strategic initiatives since 2006, has been named Executive Vice President.
“This new title reflects the critical role that David plays as the senior officer in charge of integrating our strategic initiatives, planning and implementation across a broad array of departments and units,” said University President Robert J. Zimmer. “I am grateful to David for his ongoing leadership and his willingness to accept this new, enhanced role.”
As Executive Vice President, Greene leads high-level planning groups in order to implement strategic priorities. He coordinates work that crosses a number of institutional functions, ranging from financial strategy and fundraising, real estate development, campus master planning, and external relations to the University’s growing set of activities around the world.
Greene came to UChicago from Brown University, where he served as a vice president responsible for enhancing the educational environment for graduate, undergraduate and medical students. He did his undergraduate work at Hamilton College in history, and his master’s (human development and psychology) and doctoral work (planning and social policy) at Harvard University.
He began his career at Brown as President Ruth J. Simmons’s chief administrative deputy. He played a similar role for Simmons while she was president of Smith College.
