Erik Hurst, the V. Duane Rath Professor of Economics and Neubauer Family Faculty Fellow, received the Emory Williams Teaching Award. Students from all Booth MBA programs vote on the prize, which recognizes accessibility to students, and enthusiasm and innovation in teaching.
Hurst studies macroeconomics, wealth mobility, leisure time, real estate economics, household savings behavior, and household bankruptcy decisions. During the past year he taught macroeconomics courses for MBA and Ph.D. students.
Three Booth faculty received teaching awards for their work in our Executive MBA Program. They shared the Hillel J. Einhorn Award, which is given annually to the Booth faculty member who selects interesting and important material, makes the class sessions interesting and engaging.
- John Huizinga, the Walter David “Bud” Fackler Distinguished Service Professor of Economics, for his teaching in the Executive MBA Program Europe, at Booth’s London campus.
- Federico Bandi, visiting professor of econometrics and statistics, for his teaching in the Executive MBA Program Asia, at Booth’s Singapore campus.
- David Altig, adjunct professor of economics, for his teaching in the Executive MBA Program North America, at Booth’s Chicago campus.
Marianne Bertrand, the Chris P. Dialynas Professor of Economics and Neubauer Family Faculty Fellow, received the Class of 2010 Phoenix Award, which is awarded annually to the Booth faculty member who, in addition to his or her classroom responsibilities, has greatly enriched the learning experience of students through voluntary involvement in the extracurricular and community activities of the graduating class.
Bertrand devotes her research to personnel policy, internal labor markets, managerial incentives, corporate governance, and executive compensation. She recently finished teaching a new course titled “The Firm and the Non–market Environment.” She also ran an applied economics workshop.
Sharing this year’s Faculty Excellence Award are Lubos Pastor, the Charles P. McQuaid Professor of Finance, and Scott Meadow, clinical professor of entrepreneurship. The prize honors faculty members who have demonstrated an exception commitment to teaching as voted by the students in the evening and weekend MBA programs.
