Ron Huberman, a 2000 graduate of the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and the School of Social Service Administration at the University, was named CEO of the Chicago Public Schools on Tuesday. Huberman, 37, President of the Chicago Transit Authority, succeeds Arne Duncan, who has been named U.S. Secretary of Education.

"We are very pleased to see that a graduate of the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration will provide the leadership necessary to ensure the continued transformation of public education in the City of Chicago," said Jeanne Marsh, Dean of SSA and the George Herbert Jones Distinguished Service Professor in SSA.

"A student of educational policy and public management, Mr. Huberman has used his education well in service of institutions and citizens of Chicago. Throughout his tenure in government, he has forged successful academic and corporate partnerships," Marsh added. "There is no question that he will continue to work in this manner, and we at the School look forward to our continuing work together to promote and enhance the education of the young people of Chicago."

Huberman has served as President of the CTA since May 1, 2007. He was previously Mayor Daley's Chief of Staff and Executive Director of the Office of Emergency Management and Communications.

Huberman joined the Chicago Police Department in 1995 and served in various capacities. As Assistant Deputy Superintendent for the Office of Information and Strategic Services, Huberman led the Research and Development, Information Services, and Records Services divisions and the Office of Information and Strategic Services.

He studied at the University while on the police force, and in 2000, he received an A.M. from SSA and an M.B.A.
