Shadi Bartsch-Zimmer

Shadi Bartsch-Zimmer’s research focuses on two areas: the literature and philosophy of the Neronian period and the reception of the Western classical corpus in modern China. She is the author of Persius: A Study in Food, Philosophy and the Figural (2015) and The Mirror of the Self: Sexuality, Self-Knowledge and the Gaze in the Early Roman Empire (2006). She also recently co-edited the Cambridge Companion to Seneca (2015).

In April 2015, Bartsch-Zimmer was named the inaugural faculty director of the Stevanovich Institute on the Formation of Knowledge. Among her many honors and awards are the University's Quantrell Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, and being among “40 under 40” in Crain's Chicago Business Journal
