David Strauss

David Strauss is the Gerald Ratner Distinguished Service Professor of Law and the Faculty Director of the Supreme Court and Appellate Clinic. His main interests are in constitutional law and related subjects. He is the author of The Living Constitution (Oxford University Press, 2010), the co-author of Equality and Democracy: The Enduring Constitutional Legacy of the Warren Court (Oxford University Press, 2019), and a co-editor of the Supreme Court Review. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He has been a visiting professor at Harvard and Georgetown. He received the Graduating Students’ Award for teaching excellence in 1996, 1998, 2000, 2005, 2011, and 2021. He has served as an Assistant to the Solicitor General of the United States, in the Office of Legal Counsel of the US Department of Justice, as Special Counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee, and as a member of the President’s Commission on the Supreme Court. He has argued nineteen cases before the US Supreme Court. He is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, and he was a Marshall Scholar at Magdalen College, Oxford.
