Matthew Brown is an Assistant Instructional Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Chicago. He holds a PhD in economics from Stanford University and a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame. His research uses empirical evidence to learn about how to regulate markets where consumers might make mistakes. For example, his recent working paper, "Do Sports Bettors Need Consumer Protection? Evidence from a Field Experiment," uses a field experiment to demonstrate that sports bettors underestimate the financial costs of gambling, and discusses implications for regulators. Dr. Brown is available to speak with media on behavioral economics generally and on sports betting markets specifically.
