Laurens Mets

Laurens Mets is a leading voice in the field of molecular genetics. He has spent decades examining how plant and algal cells construct their photosynthetic apparatus, and his research could lead to the creation of an environmentally friendly fuel as he improves the process of producing hydrogen from water. Assoc. Prof. Mets developed technology that uses a microorganism to convert electricity into methane gas, an innovation that was later adopted by Electrochaea, a UChicago start-up.
