Kate Burrows, PhD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Chicago and an environmental epidemiologist whose research examines how extreme weather affects human health. She holds a PhD from Yale University (School of the Environment) and an MPH and BA from Columbia University, and brings interdisciplinary training that spans environmental epidemiology, social-behavioral science, and community-based research. Dr. Burrows is available to speak with media on the health consequences of extreme heat, hurricanes, flooding, and other climate-driven disasters, with particular expertise in mental health outcomes and how extreme weather events strain healthcare systems. Dr. Burrows’s research is largely focused on the U.S., though she conducts some global health work including studies on disaster impacts in Japan and Indonesia. Her work consistently highlights how vulnerable populations bear a disproportionate burden of climate- and weather-related harms.
