Emily Talen

Emily’s research is dedicated to urban design, and she is well-known for her research investigating the relationship between the built environment and social equity. At the University of Chicago, Emily is a professor of Urbanism in the Division of Social Sciences and director of both the Urbanism Lab and the Kreisman Initiative for Housing Law and Policy within the Mansueto Institute for Urban Innovation. She received a Guggenheim Fellowship and is the author of influential books including Neighborhood and New Urbanism and American Planning: The Conflict of Cultures.
