Ed O’Brien is an experimental social psychologist. His research examines the power of the situation over how people understand themselves and the social world. Current topics of interest include experienced enjoyment, time use and well-being, and differences in how people respond to improvement versus decline.
His research has been published in top journals, including Psychological Science, the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. A number of media outlets have featured his research, including NPR, the Atlantic, TIME, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and Big Think. He was listed among the 2018 Best 40 Under 40 Professors by Poets&Quants.
