Darren Bryan

Darren Bryan, MD, is a highly skilled thoracic surgeon specializing in the treatment of disorders of the lung, esophagus, chest lining (pleura) and thymus gland. Dr. Bryan has particular expertise in caring for patients with lung cancer and mesothelioma.

Trained in both traditional (open) and minimally invasive/robotic surgical techniques, Dr. Bryan is able to personalize care for each patient. He works with his patients to decide what treatment option will work best for long-term success.

Along with his clinical practice, Dr. Bryan uses laboratory science and transitional research to investigate new therapies that can improve care for patients with lung disease and cancer. His work has been published in multiple highly regarded peer-reviewed journals, including the Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Annals of Surgery and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

As a surgeon at the University of Chicago, he is closely involved in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows, helping to guide their training paths and provide mentorship along the way.
