UChicago Medicine introduces women's health program to serve faculty and staff

The University of Chicago Medicine has created a new program dedicated to providing increased care in obstetrics and gynecology for University of Chicago faculty and staff.

The Women’s Health Friends & Family Program is offering longer clinical hours and expedited appointments for more convenient care, with appointments available on a same-day basis for urgent issues. The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology is providing all care in the program.

As part of the Women’s Health Friends & Family Program, UChicago Medicine also will continue to offer seminars as part of its long-term series on women's health, covering topics on natural births, the benefits of breastfeeding, and preventative and early detection methods for gynecological cancers.

The first seminar, on options for natural births, will take place at noon on Thursday, Nov. 6, in the Coulter Lounge in the International House, 1414 E. 59th St. All seminars are free and open to the public. Lunch will be provided. Reservations may be made by contacting (888) 824-0200 or UCMConnect@uchospitals.edu.

“This program offers convenient, quality obstetric and gynecologic care to faculty and staff of the University of Chicago and to their spouses, partners and adolescent children,” said Ernst Lengyel, chair and professor in obstetrics and gynecology. “It is one way for us to demonstrate how much we value and respect the dedication that our faculty and staff members bring to the University.”

The team of Friends & Family physicians include Maryam Siddiqui, a gynecologic surgeon who also provides preventative and routine care for women; Adrianne Dade, a general obstetrician and gynecologist who specializes in minimally invasive procedures for the surgical removal of tumors that grow inside and outside the uterus; Kenneth Nunes, who specializes in twin gestations, preconception care, advanced maternal age, fibroids and the management of abnormal Pap smears; and Nicole Leong, who provides care for women through all stages of their reproductive health, and provides contraception counseling and family planning advice.

Clinical appointments for gynecologic and obstetric care will be available in suite 3-H of the Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine on select weekdays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. If a patient’s needs include labs, ultrasound or a mammogram, specialists will make every effort to schedule them adjacent to appointment times. Insurance coverage will be verified upfront.

Appointments will be completed in 55 minutes, with minimal time in the waiting room, and patients will still receive individualized care and personalized time with their doctor. As always, hospital visits and medical records will be treated with confidentiality.

Test results are sent through the new patient portal, MyChart, followed by a phone call from one of the care team members. When results are abnormal, physicians will call their patients directly and work with them to create a treatment plan.
