This panel features three leading economists—Thomas Piketty, Kevin Murphy, and Steven Durlauf—who discuss the sources of the rise in inequality in advanced industrialized countries over the past 40 years, the problems this inequality poses, and effective responses. Nobel laureate James Heckman moderates the panel and guides the discussion.

This event was cosponsored by the University of Chicago’s Becker Friedman Institute, Harris School of Public Policy, Human Capital and Economic Opportunity Global Working Group, and Center for the Economics of Human Development.
