More than a century of autumn traditions reflect a school spirit both classic and quirky

The University of Chicago has historic ties to one of America’s favorite fall traditions: Homecoming.

In 1910, the Maroons took part in one of the nation’s first Homecoming games—played at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Over the years that followed, UChicago built its own homecoming traditions, mixing the classic with the quirky in ways that reflected the spirit of the UChicago community.
