Jonathan Simon investigates quantum behaviors with an eye towards quantum information processing, quantum-secured communication & computing, and material properties. He is a leader in the field of synthetic quantum materials. In 2016, he designed and synthesized a new class of quantum material composed of light. These materials, made up of photons instead of atoms, provide access to a new paradigm of quantum dynamics that had previously been limited to theoretical studies.
Asst. Prof. Simon was the recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, the Department of Energy Early Career Award, a Young Investigator Award from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, and a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency Young Faculty Award.
