Geoffrey R. Stone is an authority on civil rights, constitutional law and the First Amendment. He has written numerous articles concerning freedom of speech and the press, freedom of religion, academic freedom, the constitutionality of police using secret agents and informants, and the Supreme Court. He served as dean of the Law School from 1987 to 1993, and as provost of the University from 1993 to 2002. Stone is an editor of The Supreme Court Review and he is co-author of Constitutional Law (2001, 4th. ed.), The Bill of Rights in the Modern State (1992), and Eternal Vigilance: Free Speech in the Unites States (2001). He is a member of the National Advisory Board of the American Civil Liberties Union.
