A memorial will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, for University alumna Rose Friedman, an economist who co-authored a number of important books with her late husband Milton Friedman. Rose Friedman, Ph.B., died Tuesday, Aug. 18, at her home in Davis, Calif.
The memorial, which will conclude with a lunch, will take place in Room 219 in the University of Chicago Booth School of Business' Charles M. Harper Center, 5807 S. Woodlawn Ave.
Guests and friends scheduled to speak at the event include President Robert Zimmer, Gary Becker, University Professor in Economics, Sociology and Chicago Booth, and Stephen Stigler, Chair of Statistics and the Ernest DeWitt Burton Distinguished Service Professor in Statistics and the College. Friedman and her husband, a University of Chicago professor and winner of the 1976 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, were the authors of a number of influential books, including Capitalism and Freedom and Free To Choose, which was published as a companion book to a public television series of the same name.
She also is remembered as an active member of the University community.
She received an A.B. in Philosophy from the University and continued her training in economics at UChicago, completing all work for a Ph.D., with the exception of writing a dissertation.
