His research group investigates a broad range of topics in chemistry, chemical biology, microbiology, bioinorganic chemistry, cell biology and structural biology. His interests include DNA and RNA modification and de–modification, virulence and antibiotic resistance regulation in human pathogens, selective metal ion recognition by proteins, and catalysis. He has received numerous awards, including the Society of Biological Inorganic Chemistry Early Career Award, American Chemical Society Akron Section Award, the Burroughs Wellcome Fund Investigator in the Pathogenesis of Infectious Disease Award, W. M. Keck Foundation Distinguished Young Scholar in Medical Science, Searle Scholar and the National Science Foundation CAREER Award. A native of the People’s Republic of China, He holds a joint professorship at Peking University.
