We were saddened to learn that Rose Friedman passed away today at her home in California. Rose was an accomplished writer on economics and public policy, and was an active working partner to her husband, Milton Friedman, Nobel Laureate in Economics and long time faculty member at the University of Chicago. For years, Rose was a vibrant and valued presence in the University of Chicago community.
Rose Friedman received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of Chicago, and continued her training in economics at the University. Rose and Milton Friedman were married for 68 years, and their enduring commitment to one another will persist as a special part of the University’s history. On behalf of the entire University of Chicago community, I offer their children Janet and David as well as the rest of their family our sincere condolences.
