Summary

The Chicago Society of the University of Chicago, held a Chicago Insights Event late last year, which was one of the early events in the 16-month-long Soviet Arts Experience. The event featured a lecture and performance by Masumi Rostad of Pacifica Quartet and Amy Briggs, Lecturer in Music and Director of the Noontime Concerts and Chamber Music Program, who played sonatas written by Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich. Robert Bird, Associate Professor in Slavic Languages & Literatures and the College, also lectured on Shostakovich's music and its relation to Communist Soviet society.
