Summary

On September 25, 2012, former Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, Distinguished Senior Fellow at the Harris School of Public Policy, and Karen Freeman-Wilson, Mayor of Gary, IN, announced a collaborative project between the University of Chicago, Chicago Harris, and the city of Gary.  President Robert J. Zimmer and Chicago Harris Dean Colm O'Muircheartaigh joined Daley and Freeman-Wilson in describing how Chicago Harris students, faculty, and Gary city officials will work to create public policy initiatives designed to revitalize the city. A brief media Q&A  followed the speakers' remarks. This new collaboration project with the City of Gary joins the University’s growing roster of initiatives in urban education, urban health, economic development, the arts and similar topics of importance to cities everywhere.
