Lawrence Rothfield: A Theory of Scenes

Lawrence Rothfield, Associate Professor in English and Comparative Literature at the University of Chicago, delivered the lecture A Theory of Scenes in Jinan, China on June 9, 2012. Rothfield described a recent project to create an extensive urban amenities database on a national scale in order to analyze the effect of cultural amenities on urban development. Rothfield is the founding faculty director of the University's Cultural Policy Center, and his research broadly focuses on the politics and sociology of culture. The event was sponsored by the University of Chicago Center in Beijing and the American Center for Educational Exchange.
