Ameya Pawar, a graduate student at the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago, became the first Asian American in Chicago City Council history, as alderman of the North Side’s 47th Ward. Pawar spoke at the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs’ recent graduation ceremony.

The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs invited all students of color who were graduating from the University in the 507th Convocation to join in a special OMSA event at the Cloister Club in Ida Noyes Hall. Most of the students who attended the OMSA celebration have been actively involved with the office in different capacities.
