The button messages hinted at the discussions that will take place Saturday, Oct. 24 at venues across campus: Fortified, Priestess, Inquiry, Science and Art, Unabridged, Stoic Path, Medieval, Forbidden, Antiquity, Modern, and of course, Who is Faust? Goethe scholar David Wellbery, Professor in Germanic Studies and Comparative Literature, will share his own struggle with making sense of “Faust” in his keynote address at this year’s Humanities Day. Wellbery will examine why philosophers and writers alike have considered the play such a profound statement about the human condition, and why it is still so compelling today.
