UChicago Arts Pass expands Museum Campus South offerings

UChicago Arts Pass, a program that offers UChicago students access to unique benefits at more than 70 arts organizations in Chicago, has added three major partners to its list: the DuSable Museum of African American History, the Frederick C. Robie House and the Museum of Science and Industry.

“Arts Pass allows our students to experience the remarkable cultural amenities of the city of Chicago,” said John W. Boyer, dean of the College. “The inclusion of three such important South Side institutions in this program provides wonderful new opportunities for exploration.”

Thanks to the new partnerships, students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels now receive free general admission to the Museum of Science and Industry and the DuSable Museum by presenting their UChicago ID. Students also will receive the museum member discount to attend special events at DuSable. Robie House is providing free, guided public tours for students, faculty and staff the first Monday of every month and $3 discounts at all other times.

“It’s important for UChicago students to benefit from all that Chicago has to offer—including the museums in their own backyard,” said Leigh Fagin, associate director of University Arts Engagement at the Logan Center. “These new partnerships encourage students to engage more deeply with their city and community.”

The addition of the DuSable Museum, Robie House and Museum of Science and Industry to the Arts Pass program continues UChicago Arts’ ongoing efforts to strengthen relationships with arts organizations on behalf of UChicago students, staff and faculty. In particular, this partnership offers students the opportunity to experience Museum Campus South, a consortium of seven South Side museums that includes existing Arts Pass partners, such as the Smart Museum of Art, the Oriental Institute, the Renaissance Society and the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts.

Perri L. Irmer, president and CEO of the DuSable Museum, welcomed the chance to bring more visitors from the University of Chicago to the museum.

“We are excited to provide the University of Chicago community the opportunity to explore American history through an African American lens by giving access to our unique collection, exhibits and innovative public programing,” Irmer said.

Additional benefits of the program include ArtsPass Exclusives, specially designed programs and excursions for students. Exclusives include UChicago Nights at the Art Institute, where students are transported to the Art Institute to enjoy private access and tours through the exhibitions, as well as a host of other programs throughout Chicago that often include free transportation and behind-the-scene access to artists. Other program highlights include the “Study at the _______” series with many campus ArtsPass partners during reading period.
