Students in the College and the graduate divisions and schools continue to garner prestigious international study awards, including 18 undergraduates and 33 graduates who were selected to study and conduct research in nearly 30 countries, from Albania to Tanzania, during the 2010-11 academic year.
Ten students in the College received Fulbright U.S. Student Program fellowships this spring, while eight undergraduates received six National Security Education Program Boren Scholarships for International Study and two DAAD German Academic Exchange Program Study scholarships.
"International study is something we introduce to students in the College very aggressively from the beginning," said John Boyer, Dean of the College and the Martin A. Ryerson Distinguished Service Professor in History. "The College is invested in studying abroad and in encouraging these worldly, academic experiences."
In the graduate schools and divisions, 18 students won Fulbright U.S. Student Program graduate fellowships, and 13 were named Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad fellows. Two students also won 2010-11 National Security Education Program Boren graduate fellowships.
Among the graduate fellowship recipients this year are an additional 11 alternates, who also may receive awards. The U.S. Fulbright Student Fellowship Program is available to both fourth-year undergraduate and graduate students.
The U.S. Department of State administers the program. The Fulbright-Hays Program aids students' doctoral dissertation research and is administered by the U.S. Department of Education.
