Peter Constantin named 2010 fellow of Society for Industrial/Applied Mathematics
The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics will confer fellow status upon the University of Chicago's Peter Constantin in July during the society's annual meeting in Pittsburgh.
Constantin, the Louis Block Distinguished Service Professor in Mathematics, will be among 34 professionals that the society will honor as fellows. "We take great pride in the accomplishments of these 34 outstanding SIAM members," said society president Douglas N. Arnold. "Men and women from four continents and numerous disciplines exemplify SIAM's vision of the central role mathematics plays in the advancement of science and technology."
The society will cite Constantin "for contributions to the mathematical analysis of nonlinear partial differential equations, fluid dynamics and turbulence."
The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics has more than 13,000 members, including computational mathematicians, computer scientists, and other scientists and engineers.
