Rodney Morris named Senior Director of Transportation, Parking and Medical Center Public Safety

Rodney Morris has been appointed Senior Director of Transportation, Parking and Medical Center Public Safety, effective immediately.

After three years overseeing public safety for the University of Chicago Medical Center, Morris joined the University's Department of Safety and Security in September as part the integration of those two operations. In October Morris added oversight of transportation and parking to his responsibilities, on an interim basis.

"In both roles he has done an excellent job of managing significant change, while promoting professionalism, efficiency and attention to the needs of the campus community," said Marlon Lynch, Associate Vice President for Safety and Security.

"Moving forward on a permanent basis, Rodney can now undertake long-term planning for the integrated transportation system of the University and the Medical Center, while remaining lead public safety officer at the Medical Center."

Lynch said Morris will continue to assist in the advancement of the electronic security initiatives and other safety enhancements for students, faculty, staff, patients and visitors.

Prior to joining the Medical Center, Morris worked as an assistant warden in Nashville, Tenn., and held a senior leadership position at Meharry Medical College in Nashville. He also has served five years in the U.S. Marine Corps, and held law enforcement positions in Virginia, Tennessee and Maryland. Morris earned a bachelor's degree from Trenton State College in New Jersey and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.
