Graham School announces new Advanced Project Management Studies program

Specialized program helps experienced students develop Advanced Project Management skills

The Graham School of General Studies at the University of Chicago announces the start of its 2009 program in Advanced Project Management Studies. This program which will begin in February, 2009, aims to provide experienced project managers the advanced skills and knowledge base critical to help them lead and manage complex projects even better than before.

The program combines the best of modern management thought and practical experience to help students identify and fine-tune their own personal project management style. A highly interactive classroom setting, combined with an emphasis on best practices and group discussions, will help students hone their managing techniques and expertly apply successful strategies.

"It is critical that senior project managers have the opportunity to refine their skills. We want to help them connect their work to higher level strategic contributions they can make to their organizations, help them inspire their teams and lead. We also give them an opportunity to earn professional credit," said Steve Laymon, associate dean for Business and Professional Programs at The Graham School. "This program in Advanced Project Management offers experienced students the chance to identify, refine, and enhance their own personal style, using both classroom instruction and real-life experience. This combination of educational styles provides our students with an unparalleled opportunity to expand and reengineer their project management skills, while learning from an impressive group of industry leaders," he added.

Program Details The program offers an unusual opportunity because it is designed specifically for Project Management Professionals (PMP) with at least 5 years project management experience or Project leaders with at least 10 years experience including, business managers, project sponsors, or project leaders responsible for implementing strategic technology plans, business development department managers, IT managers, supervisors, or project leaders responsible for business analysis and design. Components include:

  • Interaction with peers sharing similar levels of experience;
  • In-depth study of topics directly pertinent to organizational success;
  • Instructors who are industry leaders in the field of project management;
  • Ability to meet continuing educational requirements with courses that will hold the students' interest while expending their base of knowledge.

Program InstructorsCourse instructors include:

  • Eric Pratt, senior program director for a Fortune 500 company has experience in project management, IT management, and consulting.
  • Joe D'Mello, PhD, PMP, president of Exequity and has two decades of Fortune-50 industry experience, mainly in senior management and consulting capacities
  • Ken Ropiak has over 20 years of innovative finance, business, management consulting and information systems leadership, business development, client relationship, strategic planning, e-commerce, technology and systems, integration experience.
  • Jon Maxim is owner of Maxelerate, a supplier management consulting company. He gained his extensive experience in sales, procurement, distribution, logistics, contract drafting and negotiation in the computer and petroleum industries during his 30 years experience working for Fortune 500 companies.
  • Dave Weidenfeld has negotiated agreements for licenses, service, products and development with virtually every major provider of such items for over twenty years. Dave is currently vice president, Business Management, for Affiliated Computer Services. He earned his JD from the John Marshall Law School.
